202. Is It Legal? – by Monty

Is it legal?

This is the question I have put to the RSPCA; the vet; the lady who runs the rehoming centre where we came from; the trainer who had the honour of looking after me for four years; the local NHS representative; Bob at the Council; the manager of the dogfood shop we are banned from for weeing repeatedly on their stock, and the postman.

Is it legal to feed thoroughbred greyhounds on grit and builders’ gravel?

The answer apparently, is yes. As long as said grit and builders’ gravel is labelled as dog food.

Outrageous! Where are my sausages? My steaks? My 12 dentastix a day, my cakes, my ham sandwiches, my black pudding, my roast chicken, my custard creams and my ice-cream? I miss them.

Just because somebody with 40 years experience of working with greyhounds said I was slightly overweight, doesn’t mean I am. It certainly doesn’t mean I should be put on a diet. Outrageous!

It’s MUSCLE!

  1. Overweight!!? That’s outrageous, M. That filthy word should be banned from the English language. I am on treat restriction for gaining HALF A POUND this week. Seriously? I also need cakes and ham and chicken and pudding….. ugh.

    • I agree, it’s outrageous. Our people should take advice from us regarding this issue, not vets or other so called experts. We know what is good for us: unlimited snacks to start with.

  2. Mum and I were just having our lunch when she read out your post Monty. Oh dear🍰🍰🍰🍰. And this afternoon mum is making peanut and banana cookies and turkey and cranberry bones for my party. All from the a la bark cookbook. I expect a tasting will be in order. Can send food parcel if the diet doesn’t end soon. Salty wags Daisydog xxxx

    • Paddy, you’re a lifesaver! I will be disguised as a well-fed Labrador to receive it – so the neighbours don’t recognise me and tell The Fairy. πŸ•Ά

    • Good evening Daisydog,
I am really pleased for you. Really, I am. Pleased as pleased can be. Really. Very. Pleased. I’ve had gravel, and now I’m going to cry in a corner.

  5. Today I am mostly eating turkey and cranberry biscuits….how was the Labrador impersonation? Mum says if I don’t stop teasing you she will take me to the VETS to be weighed. And I might need to give up some treats. My lips are now sealed on the subject. Salty wags Daisydog xx

    • Good decision Daisydog. You don’t want to give up any treats if you can help it – it’s AWFUL. Though Chicken did say that ladies are always at their perfect weight, no matter what it is. πŸ€”

Treat restriction should be considered as cruelty to greyhounds. Lucky for our Vinny, he has not heard that word associated with him. Although, his little furby companion, Toby, does. Thank you for following me. My blogs on the greyt boy are somewhat limited, but I am thinking of expanding them and joining other greyhound lovers.
